Run a separate instance of the File Viewer from the File Manager View pane by holding down Ctrl with the mouse cursor inside the View pane; then drag the pane off File Manager. This will launch the File Viewer as a separate executable and you can view more than one file at the same time.
Find your work more easily by creating several settings for File Manager. You can have one for viewing local files, one sorted alphabetically and one for viewing files by Novell NetWare owner on a network. To do so, start File Manager with this command line parameter:
WNFM.EXE /SET=<setting name>
The first File Manager runs with a setting-name parameter and will open with the current default settings. Adjust them until you have the view you want, then close File Manager with Options/Save Settings on Exit. If you create a file item for File Manager with this parameter, it will open with those settings. To return to the default settings, run File Manager without this parameter.
Drive Manager may be taking up too much room on your desktop, especially if you are running off a network or have a large number of drives. To buy yourself some screen real estate, change the size of Drive Manager and add scroll buttons to move around the smaller window. Position the mouse cursor over one corner of the Drive Manager until you see the double arrow for resizing. Hold Shift and drag the window to the size you want. PC Tools will automatically add scroll buttons to the window.
Rearrange the order of items displayed in CrashGuard by positioning the mouse over an item you want to move. Hold down Ctrl and drag the item to the desired position. You can also arrange items vertically instead of horizontally. To cycle through the display options for CrashGuard items, double-click on the item you want to change.
To view a directory and all subdirectories in one file list, pull down the View menu in File Manager. Select Entire Drive to see all files on the drive. Press Shift and select Entire Drive to see only the current branch.
Use the Always on Top command to keep an application visible on screen at all times. Open the application and select Always on Top from the System Control menu. This is particularly useful for CrashGuard or the Windows Clock.
Change the information in the Desktop title bar by double-clicking on any of the three title bar sections. Options include date and time, a pull-down list of virtual desktops, and free resources and memory.
IS administrators may want to purge System Consultant of any recommendations that should not be implemented for a specific environment. Select Recommendations from the toolbar, then press Ctrl+Shift+F12. Uncheck any recommendations you don't want shown.
The column headers such as Name and Date/Time that appear at the top of your File Manager list are actually buttons. Click on each to sort the file list on that option. To sort in descending order, press Shift when you click the column button.
PC Tools installs a type of sound event called CPS on your system. If you have a sound card, you can assign your sound files to any CPS event listed in the Sound Control panel.
Sick of clicking? You can access right-mouse-button pop-up menus from the keyboard. Highlight the item for which you want a menu and press Shift+F10.
